Salzburg, AustriaI enjoyed the drive from Gosau to Salzburg, but as I approached the city I left the sunny conditions and it became a bit gloomy. It required some logistics to return the rental car off in Germany at Freilassing in order to avoid cross-border drop-off fees; I didn't have cash and the bus seemed to require an app that I couldn't figure out, so I walked to the train station and took the train back to Salzburg. I stayed at a hostel which was affordable, but also reminded me why I don't do it often. I had no real complaints and used the little kitchen to cook up a dehydrated meal I'd packed with me. A group of Slovaks were there celebrating a birthday and were very friendly, pouring me a glass of vodka and chatting for a while. I was thrilled to see the Mozart museum at his birthplace, and finally a proper coffee shop where the baristas made a terrific espresso. I found my planned locations for sunset, but had to stay into blue hour because of the gloomy conditions.
The next morning I went to the very same spot hoping for better light, and it cooperated!
Afterwards, I took the train to the south side to catch the bus to Czechia.
